Act One Guided by the teacher, children in grades 1-3 discover, create and experience drama as an art and learning experience. Music, poetry and stories are used to expand the creative imagination as well as develop listening and rhythmic movement skills. Speech activities are designed to encourage each child to improvise words and dialogue for imagined characters in a variety of circumstances. Group activities reinforce the goals of cooperation and acceptance of ideas of others. Creative Dramatics Creative Dramatics is open to students in grades 4-7. This course incorporates real life situations into the content of drama activities. Students develop dramatic action through the creation of plot sequences and character relationships. With active participation, the student acquires flexibility in the verbal communication process. Improvisation, characterization and pantomime are explored. Teen Theater Workshop Theater Workshop is open to students in grades 8-12 interested in a comprehensive study of the theater. Students will learn improvisation, character development, basic theater terminology, how to read and understand the plot of a play and theater history. Time will be spent on choosing and preparing audition material as well as vocal development including breathing, diction, projection and introduction to dialects. Acting for Adults For those adults who have little or no acting experience. Exercises in staging, characterization, stage movement, projection and creativity will be employed. Utilizing learned skills, students will prepare a monologue and rehearse a role as a cooperative effort in a scene from an existing. Audition preparation will be explored.
