Beginner Teen Tap

Beginner Tap

Goal: For boys and girls ages 6-8; an introduction to tap dance for children. A proper foundation of tap technique is established through barre exercises and center floor studies using different rhythms. Special attention is given to total body placement and correct tap terminology is taught.

Tap I

Goal: For boys and girls ages 6-8; a continuation of the components and skills begun in Beginner Tap. The class includes added emphasis on technique and further development of varied rhythms and styles of tap.

Tap II

Goal: For boys and girls ages 9-11; a continuation of components and skills learned in Tap I.

Tap III

Goal: A continuation of tap in the traditional style, fundamentals of tap technique, and an introduction to jazz tap and rhythms. Previous training required.

Tap IIIA

Goal: A transition level between traditional tap styles and jazz tap. Focus is on clarity of sounds and increasing speed. Previous training is required. Placement by teacher recommendation or audition.

Tap IV

Advanced intermediate ages 12+ (younger by invitation only)

Goal: Focus is on clarity of sounds, creating understanding rhythms, increasing speed and developing style. Previous training required.

Tap IVA

Goal: Preservation of the art of "jazz tap." Challenging intricate rhythms and footwork for the experienced tap enthusiast. Creativity will be challenged through improvisational exercises. Placement by invitation or audition only. Regular attendance required.

Tap V

Goal: Development of the school's most advanced tap dancers will be pursued in this class. Placement by invitation and auition only. Regular attendance required.

Beginner Pre-Teen Tap

Goal: A tap class designed for ages 10-13 who have not studied tap before. Past dance experience of any type will be helpful.

Beginner Teen Tap

Goal: A tap class designed for teens who have not studied tap before. Past dance experience of any type will be helpful.
